Travel to a Fantasy World

Posted on 09/09/201709/09/2017 By joabstieglitz No Comments on Travel to a Fantasy World

A couple of weeks ago, I was asked on Goodreads:

If you could travel to any fictional book world, where would you go and what would you do there?

I’ve been very busy with the day job, so I hadn’t had much time to think about it, and it is a tough question. As a fan of supernatural adventures, most of the places I read about are not very pleasant places.

I also enjoy Philip Kerr’s Bernie Gunther mysteries, but as they take place in Nazi Germany, I don’t think I would want to go there.

The worlds of Jim Butcher’s TheDresden Files, or Larry Correia’s Monster Hunter International and Grimnoir series are a little more attractive as they are less realistic than my other reading preferences.

When we get down to the finalists though, the world of Richard Stross’ The Laundry Files, or the Warhammer universe as depicted in Sandy Mitchell’s Commissar Cain novels would be most attractive.

In The Laundry Files, I think I would be an internal auditor, with knowledge of the true picture and the skills to deal with it.

Otherwise, I would be a member of Commissar Cain’s retinue. Perhaps his dog handler. He seems like a pit bull man to me.

As an afterthought, I could also see myself in the world of Eddy Webb’s Pugmire. There I could see myself as a Pointer Guardian or perhaps a Mutt Artisan.
