Anna Rykov is an expert in interpreting Glagolitic runes in The Utgarda Trilogy. Glagolitic writing was an alphabet used during the Middle Ages in Eastern Europe prior to the introduction of the Cyrillic alphabet. The Glagolitic alphabet largely died out after the Middle Ages.
